ART JAM CREATOR, ERIN LACERRA
Professional artist & musician, Erin LaCerra is the creator and teacher of the Art Jam program. Erin completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services with a minor in Psychology at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA. After the completion of her degree, Erin served as a children’s therapeutic support counselor & case manager, as a coach for the non-profit Girls on the Run, and also as a host for an early version of Art Jam for homeschool students. Upon relocating to Portland, Oregon in 2012, Erin served as a camp counselor for Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp for Girls and directed a preschool music program for the Portland School of Rock.
In Art Jam, Erin provides an empowering learning environment for her students, much like the one she experienced as a child. Erin was exposed to music at an early age. Her father maintained a rehearsal studio in the basement of the family home. Erin and her sister would wander into the studio and make noise on the instruments. The environment was perfect for experimenting and permitted Erin to develop the confidence to try new sounds and instruments, without the fear of “messing up” or hitting a wrong note. This opportunity became the spark that ignited Erin’s life-long passion for music, a passion Erin hopes to pass on to each of her students.
In addition to teaching Art Jam classes, Erin is multi-instrumentalist specializing as a violist, vocalist and percussionist. She actively performs with her partner Alex Callenberger (Clawfoot Slumber) and with her sister Valerie LaCerra (Key of V). As a visual artist (E. LaCerra Art), Erin sells and exhibits her work to a national audience.
Erin’s personal & professional experiences in music, art & human services, bright personality and creativity culminate in a fun and engaging teaching style. Try a group class or private lesson with Erin today! Contact her at Erin.LaCerra@gmail.com.
